This year, the SI celebrates its 50th year of exhibiting the best that illustration has to offer. Congratulations to the 21 ispotters whose work was chosen for the Editorial and Book show.
This illustration by David Julian, a gatefold spread folded Cover, won several awards, most notably the Maggie Award under the category “Best Cover, Consumer Magazine. “
“The idea was to show a fantastical education machine that referenced the feature story about how to save public education by incorporating new ideas within classes. The award went to the client, the George Lucas Educational Foundation. This is my sixth Maggie Award.”

The Society of Illustrators 2008 awards for advertising, institutional and uncommissioned work won’t be given out until March 28, but Stephen Savage gave us a heads up about winning Gold for his needlepoint portrait of Steven Heller.
The SI Sequential Show is always worth a careful look, as it shows not only great technique but each artist’s narrative thought process as well. Congratulations to the ispotters who are appear in this year's exhibition, including Edel Rodriguez.

Matt Herring created a vast montage illustration in honor of the 75th Anniversary of BBC World Service. The image appears across 12 windows on The Strand in London as well as all promotion material worldwide. To see the whole illustration, click here.
